…as NUJ Warri Unveils Secretariat

The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening ties with the media, describing journalists as indispensable partners in governance.
Oborevwori made the statement today at the inauguration of the newly built High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo Press Centre, during the 2025 Press Week and Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lecture/Award Ceremony of the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, Delta State.
The Governor, who was represented by the Executive Director of Projects on the Board of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Ebenezer Okorodudu, praised the media’s role in promoting transparency and accountability.
Okorodudu reiterated NUJ’s critical function as the “fourth estate of the realm,” serving as a bridge between government and the people.
He emphasised that effective communication remains vital to governance, and assured the union of continued support from the Oborevwori administration.
The Executive Director hailed the newly built Press Centre as a landmark achievement for press freedom and professionalism in Delta State, describing the project as a “rare feat” not replicated elsewhere in the country.
Dr. Okorodudu applauded the union for delivering a purpose-built facility that shows the vital role of the media in a democratic society.
He further commended the management of Tantita Security Service and its Chairman, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, for their support in the construction of the building and for their partnership in community development initiatives.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Warri Correspondence Chapel, Comrade Okies Okpomor, commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support in building the edifice, saying, “If not for him, this ceremony wouldn’t have taken place here. We are grateful to you for helping us.”
He announced plans for a ₦4 billion journalist village to be sited along Aziza Junction, Warri-Sapele Road, comprising 50 housing units, a police post, a mini market, and a school.
The Chairman appealed to the Delta State Government, Tantita Security Services, corporate bodies, and federal lawmakers to support the initiative and help actualise the vision.
Dignitaries who graced the event include the Oroseun of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, HRM Dr. Ogheneochuko Egbobonyen, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, HRM Monday Whiskey Odurhie, National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, Chairman of NUJ, Delta state Council, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, Veteran Journalist, Comrade Asiwaju Sola Adebayo, among others.
