The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ughelli Chapter has bestowed its prestigious Award of Excellence on Engr. Dr. Goodnews Agbi, the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit.
This is in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the engineering profession and national development.
The honour was conferred during the chapter’s Annual Public Lecture and Award Ceremony held at the Donrose Event Centre, Ughelli.
This year’s lecture was themed “Leveraging Opportunities in the Renewable Energy Space by Engineers for Sustainable Development and Wealth Creation.”
In his keynote remarks, the Chairman of the Ughelli Chapter of NSE lauded Dr. Agbi for his enduring commitment to the growth of engineering in Nigeria, both in academia and public service.
He described him as “one of the finest engineers of his generation, a mentor to many, and a patriotic professional whose works speak volumes locally and internationally.”
The NSE boss noted that the decision to honour Dr. Agbi was driven by his impressive academic and professional pedigree, which reflected a rare blend of technical excellence, academic distinction, and public service leadership.
In his acceptance speech, a visibly humbled Engr. Dr. Agbi expressed profound gratitude to the NSE, Ughelli Chapter, for the honour bestowed on him and pledged his unwavering support to the Society, while encouraging the young engineers to continue solving societal problems through innovation and collaboration, adding that “We are engineers to solve problems….’’
With this honour, Engr. Dr. Goodnews Agbi joins the very small circle of distinguished Nigerian engineers whose works continue to shape the future of the profession and the nation at large.
Born with a passion for structural integrity and societal development, Dr. Agbi began his academic journey at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering in 1987. He later obtained a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from the University of Lagos in 1997. Expanding his horizons, he completed a Master of Business Administration at the University of Calabar in 1999, while actively practicing in the engineering sector.
His insatiable thirst for knowledge propelled him further to earn a PhD in Monetary Economics from Stanton University, Tampa, Florida, USA. He also holds a Master of Engineering in Geo-Technical in Civil Engineering from Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Structural Engineering.
Dr. Agbi has made remarkable impacts as a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Delta State University, Oleh Campus, where he has taught for over 15 years, inspiring the next generation of engineers with academic depth and practical insight.
