NNL Super 8: Warri Wolves, Wikki Tourists, Two Others Gain Promotion To NPFL

  • Wolves Meet Week For Final Encounter

BY CHRISTIAN EZE

WARRI Wolves Football Club has surmounted the hitches and barricades to accomplish the desire of entire Deltans who were very pleased yesterday with the promotion of the Club to the Nigeria Professional Football {NPFL} following the 2 – 1 victory against Crown Football Club in the ongoing Nigeria National League {NNL} Supper 8 tournament at Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The tension soaked encounter was further heightened with the heavy down pour of the rain that made the encounter more difficult with uneasy movement and flow of play but it was an advantage point release for Abdulateet Yusuf secured the opening goal for the Seaside’s team in the 6th minute of play to calm the tensed nerves of Delta football enthusiast who have become uncomfortable with the players inability to score earlier.

Yusuf’s goal was very transient as the Crown F C equalized by Ibrahim Obanasa to make it more tasking for the host team who initially thought that they will overrun their opponent but saw a different Crown F C who eventually became torn in the flesh for the Delta Cherished team.

The winning goal for Wolves was realized in the 62nd minute of play when the goalkeeper of Crown, Mubarak Sultan caught a free kick loosely that it eventually slipped of his hands and was simply converted by the fast moving Igbunu, who got hold of the determining opportunity to lift the team forward.

Warri Wolves has been relegated for longer than necessary and it has become very disturbing that a State like Delta which is known for her dominance in sports development in the country, has no representative in the professional football league and everyone showed pronounced  interest to make the NPFL a reality hence the jubilation at the final whistle.

The greater beaut of the victor is that Wolves has become the top team in the Southern Conference with six points while Wikki Tourists is the top most in the Northern Conference and both have been promoted.

Other Clubs who benefited in this Primer 8 competition, are Barau F C in the Northern Conference and Kun Khalifat F C in the Southern Conference and the four teams have gained promotion to the highly placed professional league.

Warri Wolves and Wikki Tourists will be meeting tomorrow to decide the actual winner of the 2024/25 Super 8 having finished the promotion exercise as the best of the two conferences.
