The National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) has extended deep appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following a significant 66.6% increase in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) bursary award, which raised the amount from ₦30,000 to ₦50,000 per student.
In a press statement signed by the National President of NADESSTU, Comrade Oweiotu-ebi Oyinkare-ebi Joseph, and released on behalf of the National Joint Executive Council, the student body described the increment as a welcome development that demonstrates the governor’s unwavering commitment to student welfare and educational advancement in the state.
Comrade Oyinkare-ebi praised Governor Oborevwori as a student-friendly leader who listens to the yearnings of students and takes proactive steps to alleviate their challenges. The increase in bursary payment, according to the statement, is in line with the governor’s M.O.R.E Agenda and reflects his investment in the future of young people within oil-producing communities.
The student body also extended appreciation to the Managing Director/CEO of DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor, the Chairman, Olorogun John Nani, and other board members of the Commission for their tireless efforts in protecting the interests of students from oil-producing areas and ensuring that the scheme remains impactful.
The NADESSTU President urged the DESOPADEC bursary board to implement the increment beginning with the most recently concluded bursary registration, adding that prompt execution would further strengthen trust in the leadership of the governor and the Commission.
“This gesture is not just financial; it is symbolic. It shows that our governor listens, understands, and is committed to solving student-related issues. We are confident that this new amount will ease the burden on many of our members,” the statement read.
NADESSTU, representing Delta students globally, concluded by reaffirming its support for the Oborevwori-led administration and expressing hope for continued collaboration in advancing the welfare of students across the state.
