Mutu Pledges Increased Development For Constituents

BY EBI NIEKETIEN

THE member representing Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, has reaffirmed his commitment to attracting more development to his constituency, with particular emphasis on ensuring the completion of abandoned Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) projects in the region.

Mutu gave the assurance when members of the Ijaw Journalists Association Worldwide (IJAW), paid him a courtesy visit in Warri.

Addressing the journalists, the federal lawmaker said his leadership philosophy is anchored on silent strength, driven by hard work and tangible results rather than public noise.

According to him, his priority has always been to make meaningful impact on the lives of his constituents and contribute to the overall development of the area.

Mutu, who served as Chairman, House Committee on NDDC, in the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2019, said his tenure afforded him the opportunity to work extensively across the Niger Delta, while ensuring that Delta State benefitted significantly from intervention projects.

However, the lawmaker expressed concern that progress on some projects had slowed following changes in management at the commission.

He noted that some communities which previously protested the lack of completion of NDDC projects while he was Chairman, has since gone quiet, with certain projects now abandoned, as he underscored the need for the Ijaw people to desist from the pull down syndrome.

He also pledged to strengthen collaboration with journalists to ensure that constituents were properly informed, stressing that the media plays a critical role in telling the true story of leadership, service and development.

Earlier, the President of Ijaw, Mr Bulou Kosin, said the visit was informed by the visible impact of the legislator, whose influence, he noted, cuts across Delta State and beyond. Kosin said Hon. Mutu’s tenure as Chairman of the House Committee on NDDC left a lasting legacy, not only in his constituency but across the state and the nation.

While commending completed constituency projects, he expressed concern over pending interventions, particularly NDDC projects, and urged the lawmaker to leverage his experience, influence and proven capacity to ensure their completion. He also called for stronger collaboration between the media and the legislator, stressing the need for improved reportage.
