TRADERS at the Sapele Ultra-Modern Market have expressed joy following the installation of solar-powered streetlights by Premier Crest Microfinance Multipurpose Cooperative Bank.
Sapele main market, which had long faced challenges of poor lighting at night, came alive at the weekend, when the newly installed solar lights were switched on. The development was met with excitement from traders and shoppers, many of whom described the project as a welcome intervention.
The Managing Director, Premier Crest Bank, Mr. Oke Excel, speaking at the event said the installation of solar street lights was part of the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at supporting the economic and social development of communities in area
“We understand the role of markets like this in the economic heartbeat of Sapele. Our goal is to create a safer and more conducive environment for business, while also empowering the people through other financial services,” Excel said.
He explained that beyond the lighting project, Premier Crest Bank had been actively supporting traders and residents with access to soft loans to boost their businesses and personal ventures.
“We have provided loans to hundreds of traders in this market and residents across Sapele to enable them to expand their businesses, meet urgent financial needs, and improve their livelihoods. This is in line with our mission to promote financial inclusion and community development,” he added.
Traders, many of whom are beneficiaries of the bank’s loan scheme, lauded the institution for its commitment to their welfare.
Mrs. Roseline Igbudu, a foodstuff seller, expressed her gratitude: “This bank has been helping us not just with light, but also with loans. I collected a loan last year that helped me grow my business. Now with these lights, we can stay open longer and feel safer.”
Another trader, Mr. Samuel Ekpokpo, said: “Premier Crest is making a real difference in this market. Many of us have benefited from their loans, and now they have solved the lighting problem. It shows they care about us.”
