The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the successful extradition of Benjamin Nnayereugo, popularly known as “Killaboi,” from Doha, Qatar, to face prosecution for the murder of 21-year-old Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, a first-class student of Lead City University, Ibadan.
Nnayereugo, who fled Nigeria after allegedly killing Onuwabhagbe at his residence in Ajah, Lagos, on July 13, 2023, was returned to the country in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025.
His extradition marks the culmination of a complex international manhunt spanning several continents.
According to a press statement issued today by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the breakthrough followed a petition by the victim’s family and was driven by coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Justice, INTERPOL NCB Abuja, and the Qatari judicial authorities.
“After the murder, the suspect fled the country and released a misleading online confession, clearly intended to derail investigations,” the police statement read.
The NPF declared him wanted in October 2023 and issued an INTERPOL Red Notice. He was initially arrested in Freetown, Sierra Leone, under a false identity, “Kanu Princeton Samuel,” but escaped during a prison break on November 26, 2023.
Subsequent intelligence efforts traced his movements through West Africa, East Asia, and eventually to Doha, where he lived under the alias “Toure Abdoulaye” using a fake Guinean passport.
Advanced biometrics and collaboration between INTERPOL offices in Abuja and Doha ultimately confirmed his identity, leading to his arrest in February 2025.
The Qatari government approved his extradition after a formal request was submitted through Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Justice.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the international cooperation that led to the fugitive’s capture and extradition, and promised a thorough and diligent prosecution.
“This extradition reflects our commitment to justice and the safety of all Nigerians,” Egbetokun said, while also commending the Government of Qatar, INTERPOL partners, and the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar for their support.
The case has attracted significant public interest due to the brutality of the crime and the suspect’s high-profile online persona. The police have assured the public that Nnayereugo will be prosecuted with full adherence to the rule of law.
