A 57-year-old farmer, Mr Obiazi Ayidu, has been murdered on his farmland in Alimokwe Community, Alisimie Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Mr Ayidu, a father of four, was said to have gone to his farm to barn his yams in his farmland when the tragedy occurred.
Our correspondent gathered that when the victim could not return till the next day, his wife, who was said to have gone to Agbor town to take medical treatment in the hospital, contacted his relations at home through phone calls, informing them that the husband’s phone number could not be reached.
Information gathered revealed that it was the wife’s alarm that drew the attention of community members to organise a search for his whereabouts.
It was also reported that the body of the victim was later discovered in a nearby farmland, with his body severely brutalised by the assailants.
The victim’s body has been deposited at the mortuary of the Central Hospital, Agbor, while no arrest has been made in connection with the crime as of the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, all efforts to contact the police on the incident proved abortive, as at the time of filing this report. However, sources said the investigation was ongoing in relation to the incident.
