Fejiro Oliver’s Travails: Gov’s Aide Advocates Out Of Court Settlement

BY AWELE OGBOGU

Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on Civil Society Engagement, Mr. Rex Anighoro has advocated an out of court settlement, rather than litigation for Delta-born investigative journalist, Tega Oghenedoro, widely known as Fejiro Oliver, who is being remanded in Ogwashi-Uku Prison following Thursday’s hearing at the Federal High Court in Asaba.

His arrest reportedly followed a petition filed by Freeborn Eghagha, an aide to Governor Oborevwori, accusing him of defaming the governor in a series of critical online reports.

However, Anighoro speaking to The Pointer, yesterday, advocated for a resort to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), while refusing to speak on the merits and demerits of the ongoing case against Fejiro as this would be prejudicial.

“I would call for Alternative Dispute Resolution to put an end to this matter. Fejiro is my friend, an activist and member of the civil society community, while the governor is my principal. So I believe that with ADR, this cab be resolved amicably.

Oliver made his first court appearance on Thursday, with his bail application adjourned to October 16, 2025. Following his arrest, Oliver was flown on a chartered aircraft to Asaba.

His arrest reportedly followed a petition filed by Freeborn Eghagha, an aide to Governor Oborevwori, accusing him of defaming the governor in a series of critical online reports.

According to court documents filed at the Asaba Judicial Division, the police alleged that Fejiro, “between the months of August and July, 2025, in Asaba within Asaba Judicial Division did make publications on your Facebook account with the name Fejiro Oliver, cyberstalking His Excellency, Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State.”

In the charge, he was accused of denigrating the Governor on account of his trip to Brazil and other offenses”,  a statement the police claim was “aimed at destroying his reputation and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 24 (2) (c) (ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention etc) Act, 2015, as amended.”

In a separate charge, the journalist was accused of making similar publications against Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District.

The police alleged that Fejiro, “between the months of May, and July, 2025, in Asaba within Asaba Judicial Division did make publications on your Facebook account with name – Fejiro Oliver, cyberstalking Senator Ede Dafinone, currently representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate,”
