THE Delta State Police Command is taking decisive action following allegations of extortion involving officers from Jesse division.
Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola ordered the redeployment of DPO of Jesse, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor and launched an investigation into claims that officers extorted N2.5 million from a woman’s family for the release of her brother in custody.
In a statement, yesterday, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, it noted that “this follows a viral video in which a woman claimed that Officer Bright, Officer Usman and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Nwabuzor coerced her into paying the amount for the release of her brother, currently in custody”.
“Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola has taken immediate action regarding the allegations”, Edafe added. On January 1, 2026, the youth leader of the Jesse community brought several suspects to the police station, including the woman’s younger brother, Israel Onojeruo, aged 20.
Onojeruo was arrested based on the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who claimed to have sold a firearm to him.
Following this, the suspects were transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.
“In the light of the extortion accusations, CP Aina Adesola has ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police for the X-Squad to investigate the matter thoroughly”.
As part of the probe, the officer has been detained at the Command’s headquarters in Asaba, while Nwabuzor has been redeployed pending the investigation’s outcome. CP Adesola assured the public that any officers found guilty of unprofessional behaviour during the investigation will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with Police regulations.
The CP emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on extortion, intimidation and unprofessionalism within the command.
