Ex-Councilors Pledge Support For Funeral Of Late LG Chairman

THE councillors who served under the administration of late Chief Joseph Ukpe between 1999 and 2002 have paid a condolence visit to his family at his Umusadege road country home, pledging to be fully involved in his burial.

Five of the former councillors, including former House Leader, Hon. Augustine Ossai, Hon. Harkins Aguba, Hon. Sunday Okpor, Hon Moses Onowu, Hon. Benjamin Unue and Hon. Silas Olie were present during the visit.

Ossai described late Ukpe’s death as tragic and a colossal loss to the Ndokwa nation and Delta State at large.

He recalled that late Chief Ukpe left indelible prints worthy of emulation in the political sphere, especially in the areas of job creation, infrastructural development and socio-political innovations.

He expl a ined tha t mos t dividends of democracy enjoyed by the new breed politicians in the area were initiated by the deceased, pointing out that their set of lawmakers were in close relationship with the former chairman.

Orji consoled the family members and encouraged his siblings and children to take solace in the fact that their late brother and father positively affected the lives of many during his time in office.

Responding, the head of the Ukpe family, Mr. Charles Ukpe thanked the ex-councillors for the visit, describing it as a great honour to both their late brother and the relatives. He said that by the condolence visit, the ex-councillors have demonstrated that they worked in close synergy with the late Ukpe as chairman of Ndokwa West council.
