The member representing Oshimili North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Frank Esenwah, has empowered 355 of his constituents with ₦100,000 each as part of his constituency empowerment programme.
The event, which coincided with his constituency briefing, was held at the Saint John Anglican Church Civil Hall in Akwukwu-Igbo and drew dignitaries from across the state, including the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, former Governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa (represented by Elder Moses Iduh), and former Senator, Peter Nwaoboshi.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Esenwah said the gesture was part of his effort to support constituents in the face of economic hardship while fulfilling his legislative mandate.
According to him, “We ensured that this cash grant was spread across every nook and cranny of Oshimili North. Artisans, market women, landlords’ associations, councillors, and party leaders all submitted nominees.”
He explained that the empowerment initiative was aimed at helping people start or support small businesses, adding that the ₦100,000 grant was “a seed” intended to yield economic growth within the local communities.
“In the two years since you elected me, I have tried, with modesty, to make my contributions in lawmaking and oversight. We have achieved much, but there is still room for more,” he said.
Representing former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Elder Moses Iduh commended Esenwah’s generosity and commitment to his people.
He said, “At a time when things are difficult in the country, Hon. Esenwah has chosen to give back to his people instead of saving for his political future. This is commendable. I also thank the people of Oshimili North for maintaining peace, because without peace, there can be no development.”
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor also praised the lawmaker’s gesture, describing it as an example of true representation.
He said, “Ordinarily, members would save up to prepare for the next election, but Hon. Esenwah has chosen to empower his people instead. He understands that empowerment is not a gift to be squandered; it is a seed to be planted. ₦100,000 may seem little, but if used wisely, it can start a business and empower others.”
On his part, former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi lauded Esenwah’s leadership, describing him as a trailblazer who has set a new standard for constituency service.
“There has never been a member of the House of Assembly from 1999 till today who has done this. I say this with pride: Esenwah has done well. He represents the North-North region of Oshimili North with distinction. Support this man, because he has started well,” Nwaoboshi said.
The Chairman of Oshimili North Local Government Area, Chief Innocent Esewezie, also applauded the state government for extending developmental projects across all 25 local government areas, describing Esenwah’s empowerment as a reflection of responsive governance.
A beneficiary, Mrs. Nwani Ada from the Illah community, expressed gratitude for the support, saying the money would help improve her farming business.
“I am happy. I will use the money to buy materials for my farm. I thank God and pray that He blesses Honourable Esenwah,” she said.
The event also featured a documentary presentation highlighting Hon. Esenwah’s legislative achievements and community projects since assuming office.
