DTSG Vows Full Synergy With FG On Medical University, Kwale

Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme has assured that the state government is ever willing and ready to work with the federal government in ensuring that the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale comes to stay.

Onyeme gave the assurance, yesterday, when he received a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, led by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Bisola Adegoke, in his office, Asaba.

The delegation, which includes members of the ministry’s transition committee, is on an assessment visit to the State Central Hospital in Kwale. The state government has proposed to cede the facility as the take-off teaching hospital for the new university.

Welcoming the team, Sir Onyeme noted that significant progress has already been recorded in documentation and infrastructural development since the university was established, with work still ongoing.

“I want to assure you that the state government is ever willing to work with the federal government in ensuring that the university comes to stay,” he said.

“Rest assured that you have the government’s full cooperation because it is of benefit to us in the state. The government is willing to work and ensure that the required standards are met for the university to achieve its reality.”

Earlier, the Director of Hospital Service, Dr. Bisola Adegoke who led the delegation noted that the visit was directed by the Minister of Health to evaluate the hospital’s infrastructure, equipment, and personnel ahead of its proposed conversion into a teaching hospital for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale.

“The minister has directed the delegation to assess what is on ground in terms of infrastructure, equipment and the personal at the Central Hospital, Kwale which the state government has proposed to cede as a teaching Hospital for the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences as take of point.

“There will also be need for the state to sign an MoU with the Federal Government that the state has released the State Central Hospital at Kwale to the federal government for the take-off as a teaching hospital,” Dr. Adegoke stated.

She added that a detailed report would be submitted to the Federal Ministry of Health at the end of the assessment exercise.
