In line with the Delta State Government’s zero-tolerance policy on extortion under the MORE Agenda, the Ministry of Secondary Education has directed principals and staff of secondary schools who collected illegal fees above approved amounts to immediately refund the excess to parents and students.
The directive was issued during a crucial stakeholders’ engagement meeting convened by the Ministry with the Functioning Permanent Secretary and key stakeholders from both public and private education sectors to address challenges and improve service delivery in the state’s secondary education system.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, stressed that any principal or staff found to have collected unauthorized fees must refund the excess within 72 working hours, with verifiable evidence.
He warned that failure to comply will attract strict sanctions.
Following deliberations, the Ministry resolved as follows, with immediate effect:
Zero tolerance for examination malpractice: Any school or individual found culpable will face severe sanctions in line with existing regulations.
The Ministry stated that these measures are aimed at protecting parents and students, restoring discipline, promoting equity, and improving the quality of secondary education in Delta State.
It added that monitoring and enforcement will be intensified, warning that defaulters will be dealt with decisively.
