DTSG Honours Outstanding Pupils At Science, Maths Competition

THE Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education,  Mrs Rose Ezewu, yesterday, presented awards to outstanding pupils who excelled in the 2025 Science Exhibition and Primary Five Mathematics Competition.

The ceremony,  held at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba, brought together government officials, education stakeholders, teachers, to celebrate academic excellence in science and mathematics across the state.

In her opening remarks, the commissioner emphasized the importance of science education, describing mathematics as a potent instrument and bedrock for many professions, as well as a pathway to innovation, development, and solutions to real-world problems. According to her, the competitions have provided a platform for pupils to demonstrate curiosity, diligence, critical thinking, and quantitative reasoning skills. She noted that such initiatives are designed to encourage and improve the teaching and learning of science subjects in schools, while aligning educational values with the evolving demands of society.

Mrs Ezewu commended teachers and parents for their relentless efforts in nurturing the young talents, stating that their dedication was reflected in the pupils’ outstanding performances.

The Commissioner congratulated the winners, as she urged them to sustain their interest in mathematics and other science-related subjects, noting that their achievements would inspire other pupils to develop a deeper passion for learning.

Also speaking at the event, the Functioning Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, described the event as a reaffirmation of the Delta State Government’s commitment to strengthening science and technology education as a foundation for sustainable development. She noted that the competition, which was open to pupils from public and approved private primary schools across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, was conducted through a rigorous three-stage process comprising the Preliminary, Zonal, and Final stages.

The awardees of the science and exhibition competition are: Clova Onomuakpo (1st position); Jason Ephibayerin (2nd position); and Treasure Mejogbamu (3rd position). While the awardees of the mathematics competition are: Amwarha Etagbedavwe (1st position); Joshua Ike (2nd position); and Franklin Okosun (3rd position).
