DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commissioned a new fully equipped cottage hospital built by Uvwie Local Government council in Iteregbi.
He described the project as a critical achievement in strengthening grassroots healthcare and a direct manifestation of his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda for Meaningful Development, among others.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, lauded the vision and tenacity of Uvwie Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Anthony Ofoni for prioritizing healthcare infrastructure.
The governor stated that the facility showcases the power of local governance, demonstrating that “when determined leadership meets clear community needs, extraordinary results are achieved.”
The governor highlighted the strategic importance of the hospital, noting that it is positioned to provide essential services, including maternal and childcare, emergency stabilization, basic surgery and general outpatient services.
“This project will significantly decongest the existing tertiary hospitals and save countless lives by ensuring that the crucial first line of medical attention is readily available”, Governor Oborevwori said.
He emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving the healthcare system across the state, which is a key pillar of the M.O.R.E Agenda.
Governor Oborevwori urged the people to take ownership of the new asset, as well as other government projects in their area. “You are the primary beneficiaries, so you must be the primary protectors of this asset. “I urge the community development committees and the traditional rulers to take ownership, ensure the security of the personnel and the equipment”, he said.
The governor observed that the people of Uvwie are enjoying development projects because of their peaceful and accommodating nature.
Ovie of Uvwie kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel E. Sideso, Abe I whose address was themed “A moment of gratitude and progress”, described the cottage hospital as a new chapter in community health.
He noted that a lot can be achieved when government and communities work together towards a common goal.
The monarch commended Governor Oborevwori for the massive infrastructure development currently transforming the entire state, including Uvwie kingdom, notably the ongoing construction of three flyovers, a clover leaf interchange and road expansion in Effurun area being handled by Julius Berger Nig. Plc.
Also speaking at the occasion, member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Uvwie Constituency, Hon. Emakpor Edafe, assured that he will continue to support the LG Chairman for the even development of the local government area. Chairman Uvwie Local Government Area, Hon. Anthony Ofoni said that the project was delivered based on needs assessment.
Ofoni noted that similar to other projects commission under his administration, it was his vision to build a vibrant and functional system to make healthcare accessible and affordable in Uvwie Local Government Area.
