THE Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has announced the roll out of a new policy framework designed to strengthen service delivery and improve the overall experience of enrollees under the state’s health insurance scheme.
Speaking with journalists at the commission’s headquarters, Director- General of the DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta emphasized that the Commission was moving beyond enrolment numbers to service quality and patient satisfaction at the primary healthcare level.
“We are now shifting focus to the services our people are getting”, Akpoveta said. “It is time to prioritize enrollee satisfaction and ensure they are treated with dignity and professionalism at the point of care.”
The new policy, introduced earlier this year, includes a comprehensive training program for primary healthcare workers across Delta North Senatorial District.
Dr. Akpoveta stressed that healthcare workers were expected to avoid malpractice, extortion, or negligence and are now required to maintain proper documentation including occasional photo verification to improve transparency.
“These healthcare workers are the first contact enrollees have with the system. Their professionalism, empathy, and integrity are essential,” he added.
The training, already underway in Delta North, will extend to other senatorial zones in the coming weeks. It covers core responsibilities, ethical practices, communication skills, and compliance with the Commission’s newly introduced enrollee engagement guidelines.
Akpoveta also reiterated the Commission’s commitment to building a robust workforce to drive this policy forward, particularly at the grassroots level.
He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his consistent support and leadership in the health sector.
“We sincerely appreciate His Excellency for empowering the Commission to operate effectively. His commitment to the health of Deltans has been a major source of motivation,” he said.
