The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has described as misleading the information circulating on social media that Miss Ushie Uguamaye, a corps member serving in Lagos State (State code: LA/24B/8325), was denied her Certificate of National Service (CNS).
The scheme refuted claims that the corps member was refused her certificate because of comments she made about the government, stating that such allegations are entirely unfounded and false.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the NYSC clarified that Ushie was among 131 corps members whose certificates of National Service were withheld due to valid disciplinary reasons.
Her service year was extended by two months for failing to attend the biometrics clearance scheduled for April 2025, a decision that is in accordance with NYSC Bye-Laws. “The NYSC management therefore urges the public to approach this matter with understanding, as extending service for non-compliance is a longstanding practice within the NYSC and should not be politicised.
The NYSC scheme remains committed to discharging its mandate in line with the dictates of the Constitution,” the statement read.
Recall that Ushie made a viral video in March in which she criticised the country’s economic situation and described President Bola Tinubu as a terrible president.
The video provoked various reactions online, with many praising her for speaking out on behalf of other serving Corps Members, while others condemned her for violating NYSC Bye-Laws.
Months later, it was reported that the NYSC had extended her national service by two months, as reflected on her dashboard.
She was not issued her Certificate of National Service during the 2024 Batch B ‘Stream’ II Passing-Out Parade (POP), which took place on August 7, ,2025.
