Delta To Boost Girl-Child Education In 2026

THE Delta State Government has announced a significant step forward for girl-child education, particularly at the secondary school level,  with plans for substantial improvements beginning in 2026.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development, Ms Orode Uduaghan, made this known during the ministry’s 2026 fiscal year budget defence in Asaba, the state capital. Uduaghan revealed that Delta State has recently been on board onto the Adolescent Girls Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project – a World Bank-funded initiative designed to enhance access, retention, and learning outcomes for adolescent girls nationwide.

According to her, the AGILE programme will significantly strengthen the state’s education system is expected to be officially launched in the first quarter of 2026.

“The funding for AGILE is specifically targeted at girl-child education. Delta State has just been onboarded, and this will greatly boost the education system across the state. It will uplift children in secondary schools, once it is launched early next year,” she said.

The Commissioner emphasised that the ministry’s priority for the coming year is to improve grassroots accessibility, ensuring that young girls in rural communities across the state’s 25 local government areas benefit fully from the initiative.

Present at the budget defence were the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Sir Stanley Rapu; Senior Adviser to the Commissioner, Mrs. Ochuko Erhumumsee, Director of Administration, Mrs Gloria Chokor;

Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs Florence Numuopeide; Assistant Directors Mrs Gloria Oteri and Mr Julius Emoebue; Mr Famous Busom; and the Commissioner’s PA, Mrs Marvellous Tega.
