The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC), Delta State Chapter, has announced plans to commence the application process for its Real-Time Skills Empowerment programme, designed to train and equip 500 youths across the state with practical, marketable skills.
In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Comrade Wiska Monday, at his office in the state capital, Asaba, the empowerment initiative, flagged off during the group’s inauguration, is aimed at tackling youth unemployment by building self-reliance through skills acquisition.
According to Wiska, the application process will officially begin next week, Wednesday, after the group’s scheduled visit to the Delta State Technical and Vocational Education Board to obtain a comprehensive list of accredited centres and available training courses.
He explained that the programme, which will run in partnership with the board, will involve six months of intensive hands-on training followed by another six months of industrial attachment, ensuring that participants gain both theoretical and practical experience in their chosen fields.
“The Real-Time Skills Empowerment project was conceived to give young people marketable skills that can sustain them in today’s competitive economy,” he said.
“It goes beyond training; it is about creating entrepreneurs who can become job creators rather than job seekers.”
The scheme will cover a wide range of trades, including fashion design, hairdressing and makeup, barbering, catering, electrical installation, welding and fabrication, event management, decoration, plumbing, refrigeration, building, tiling, and interlocking.
Wiska added that interested youths should stay alert and prepare to indicate interest once the application portal opens next week.
He reaffirmed the SNYC’s commitment to complementing government efforts in reducing youth unemployment and fostering sustainable development across Delta State.
