Delta, Land Of Opportunities For Corps Members ––Oborevwori

By Ebi Nieketien

DELTA State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has assured corps members deployed to the state that it remains a land of immense opportunities, offering a safe and enabling environment for a productive and rewarding national service year. The governor, who was represented  by Commissioner for Youth Development, Barr. ThankGod Trakiriowei gave the assurance yesterday, at the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Course, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku.

He noted that the orientation course is a critical component of the service year, designed to prepare corps members physically, emotionally and psychologically for the task ahead, as well as for life after service. He urged them to participate actively in all camp activities and to relate freely with one another, stressing that the camp environment reflects Nigeria’s rich cultural, ethnic and religious diversity.

According to him, beyond promoting unity and tolerance, the orientation programme exposes corps members to key issues, such as security awareness, leadership, entrepreneurship, the national economy and personal development, while also introducing them to the culture and hospitality of the people of Delta State.

“Delta State is a land of immense opportunities and I encourage you to make the most of your deployment to this great state. Be assured that the state government will continue to fulfil its obligations to the NYSC to ensure that you enjoy a safe, productive and rewarding service year’’, he said.

He announced the approval of the construction of a perimeter fence to enhance security and curb vandalism, alongside the upgrade of other critical camp facilities, assuring that the projects would be completed before the next orientation exercise.

In his remarks, State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, disclosed that the orientation course, which commenced nationwide few days ago, recorded the successful registration of 1,850 prospective corps members in the state. According to Kwaghe, the three-week orientation course has been carefully structured in line with the objectives of the NYSC to instil discipline, patriotism, leadership skills, national consciousness and self-reliance in the participants through regimented training, lectures, skills acquisition programmes and social activities. The NYSC coordinator expressed appreciation to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for its consistent support to the scheme, particularly the ongoing reconstruction of the camp’s perimeter fence, which he said has significantly enhanced security of lives and property within the camp.

He, however, drew the governor’s attention to the urgent need for the sinking of an additional borehole, noting that the camp currently relies on a single borehole for water supply.
