FOLLOWING a viral social media post by a popular blogger criticizing the pace and quality of flood control works in Warri South and parts of Uvwie Local Government Areas, the Delta State Government has responded with swift action.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, led a team to inspect the ongoing Phase III Flood Control Project, which covers major areas such as Airport Road, Ugborikoko, and Ugboroke.
The blogger had alleged that the drainage works were poorly executed and had stalled, calling on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene and hold contractors accountable. The post quickly gained traction among residents, sparking concern over the State’s flood preparedness.
In a reaction, Engr. Agbi visited several project sites, including Orerokpe, where he met with the site engineer and other stakeholders and disclosed that contrary to the viral claims, work was very much ongoing, refuting the spurious allegation that the project had been abandoned. The project site was active and groundwork was progressing steadily.
“The blogger failed to ask technical questions or verify the facts before going public,” Agbi said during the inspection. “The project is under close supervision by the contractor, the supervising engineer, the consultant, and monitoring teams from Asaba. Nothing has been abandoned.”
Agbinoted that the vertical drainage currently channeling water from Musheshe Estate is not yet connected to the main drainage system, a fact the blogger appeared unaware of.
“The issue of inaccessibility for vehicles is a technical matter, and not as simplistic as portrayed. The situation is being managed appropriately,” Agbi stated.
He also highlighted other ongoing infrastructure projects such as the Ugo Ugeldi Road and ChellinAkporeshe Street in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, further reaffirming the State government’s commitment to infrastructural development.
“Governor Oborevwori is committed to delivering quality infrastructure to Deltans. These projects are not just being monitored; they are being executed with diligence,” Agbi said.
On a final note, Agbi encouraged residents to seek clarification from relevant authorities before drawing conclusions on State-led projects. The government, he added, remains open to constructive feedback but urges the public to verify information before spreading it.
