Delta Environment Commissioner Earns Praises Over Flood Response

THE Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ejiro Jamani, has received commendation for his swift and hands-on response in leading flood mitigation efforts in several parts of the state.

In response to rising water levels in some parts of the state, the Ministry of Environment undertook on-the-spot assessments of the affected areas. The commissioner visited impacted communities, including Sapele, using local boats to reach submerged locations and inspect the extent of the damage.

Following the assessments, Mr Jamani directed the immediate deployment of equipment such as swamp buggies to clear blocked canals and waterways. The aim, according him, was to restore water flow and reduce the impact of flooding on residents.

In Sapele, where flooding had severely disrupted daily life, the clearance of clogged canals under his watch had led to a noticeable receding of water levels. Residents, who were previously stranded, said the intervention has helped ease their situation.

The commissioner, while supervising the ongoing drainage operations, urged residents to adhere to environmental regulations, including refraining from dumping waste in canals.

He affirmed that the government remains committed to flood control and environmental protection, but stressed the importance of public cooperation.

He also reiterated the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through proactive environmental management.
