Controversy Trails Resignation Of Media Officer To LG Chairman

Nine months into his appointment with seven others in Ughelli North Local Government Area, the Press Officer to the local government Chairman, Prince Isire has resigned his appointment with effect from April 15, 2025.

It would be recalled that on July 28, 2024, Godspower Isire, was appointed Press Officer, (New Media) alongside seven others in a memo signed by Assistant Director of Information, Mrs. Inana Ann.

Ughelli North, Deltans and the general public are hereby informed that I have left my role as Press Officer (New Media) at the local government.

“My decision is based on mutual understanding, I extend my gratitude to Olorogun Jaro Egbo for the opportunity”, he posted.

Reacting to a social media post, Chief of Staff to the Council Chairman, Prince Elvis Oharisi denied the appointment of the Godspower Isire as Press Officer.

He said: “Resign? was he given an appointment ? If yes, I require a copy displayed. You just wake up and start with hate speech.”

Isire, in his response, appealed to all his followers not to reply Prince Elvis Oharisi as he is a man he respects so much.

Though the rumours of Godspower Isire resignation has been ongoing for  some time until he personally posted it on his Facebook page on April 15, 2025 with the name ‘Prince Isire’.

In a statement by the Press Secretary to Ughelli North Chairman, Mr Efe Ekete said: “Purported resignation story of Prince Isire, a failed attempt to discredit the credible leadership of Jaro Egbo in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

“The attention of the Office of the Executive Chairman, Ughelli North Local Government Area, has been drawn to a misleading and politically motivated report circulating online regarding the resignation of Prince Isire, former Press Officer (New Media) to the Chairman.

“The publication is a calculated attempt to blackmail and discredit the visionary leadership of Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo, the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government.

“Prince Isire’s resignation was tendered on personal grounds and through mutual understanding with the Chairman.

“The resignation had no connection whatsoever to salary or welfare issues, contrary to the false and sensational claims made in certain online posts following his departure.

“It is unfortunate that Prince Isire, after voluntarily resigning, would choose to mislead the public with baseless narratives.

“This act is not only disappointing but smacks of sabotage and deliberate mischief aimed at distorting the facts and misleading the public,”

According to Efe Ekete, ‘A credible sources, before his resignation, Prince Isire personally met with the Chairman to explain the challenges he was facing with his Federal Civil Service job, including a pending query from his primary place of assignment.

“He also admitted his inability to effectively discharge his duties as Press Officer due to frequent absences from the office and general unavailability.

“It is on this basis, and with mutual agreement, that he stepped down from his role,a decision that was respected and accepted in good faith by the Chairman.

“We therefore urge the general public to disregard any false, misleading, or sensational information being circulated in an attempt to malign the character and administration of Olorogun Jaro Egbo.”
