A Two months’ catfish training organized by Ndokwa East Local Government in conjunction with Ojobo Farms have ended in Ashaka with a call on the participants to put the skills acquired into practice.
The Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government, Chief Vincent Osilonya made the call on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the two months training program on catfish hatchery held at Ojobo Farms, Ashaka in the local government area. Chief Osilonya represented by the Supervisor for Education, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Prince Okwokwo said that the training was in line with more Agenda of the Delta State Government of creating opportunities for all by the Governor of the State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The local government boss emphasized that availability of viable fish seeds was very important in running fish production value chain and guaranteeing growth and sustainability among other factors of production.
According to the local government Chairman, the government is putting in place modalities to set up agro process centres within the local government area, adding that the purpose is to guarantee off-taking of farm produce, encourage massive production, stabilize prices and attract moral economic development to the area.
He gave an assurance that Ndokwa East would soon embark on farmers empowerment program that will carry all sectors of Agriculture along in the area.
Speaking at the occasion, Head of Agriculture Department, Mr. Believe Okpako and the consultant of training, Chief Ojobo Uzorka noted that the program was a serious foundational human capital development of the local government under the leadership of Chief Vincent Osilonya.
While pointing out that second batch of training would soon take off, Mr. Okpako and Chief Uzorka added that the trainees were registered members of Farmers Multi Purpose Co-operative Society / Eziafakaego Fish Farmers Multipurpose Society.
Some of the trainees expressed their deep appreciation to the council boss for his unwavering support to the programme describing it as first of its kind and urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the kind gesture of Ndokwa East Local government. Highlights of the occasion were presentation of Certificate, inspection of the farms and induction of the trainees into the food value chain of fish production by Mr. Believe Okpako.
Dignitaries at the occasion were the Chairman of House Committee on Agriculture of the Council, Hon. Desmond Analuwe, Hon. Chuks Ogbum, Hon. Chijioke Odone, Political Adviser to the Council Chairman, Chief Raymond Nwabuokei and Head of Department of Education Mr. Simon Utomi among others.
