A tragic incident occurred near Ibusa Road as a conductor was electrocuted while attempting to lift low-hanging electric wires to allow a truck passage. The truck had diverted from its usual route due to a completely failed portion of the Asaba-Onitsha Expressway by Ezenei Junction.
The federal road, which links key commercial zones between Delta and Anambra States, has continued to deteriorate despite repeated promises of rehabilitation from government authorities. The crumbling infrastructure has left thousands of motorists stranded and businesses on the brink of collapse.
Frustrated by the inaction, human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu and a coalition of Delta youths staged a peaceful protest along the failed portion of the expressway early this morning, calling on both state and Federal Government to urgently intervene.
In a dramatic move to draw national attention, Gwamnishu announced that he will mark his birthday on 17th July right at the failed portion of the road as a form of civil protest.
Does this concern those in government? No. They use private jets and planes for daily commutes, while the poor masses suffer daily,” Gwamnishu lamented during the protest.
The demonstrator carried placards with messages like “Fix Our Roads Now”, “Our Lives Matter Too”, and “Stop the Empty Promises”.
