STAKEHOLDERS have commended the management of Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC) for excellence, professionalism and commitment to promoting development, while ensuring that the public remains well informed about government policies and programmes.
A former Senatorial candidate in Delta North and a Diaspora leader, Dr. Kenneth Gbandi, praised the corporation for maintaining a high standard of journalism and public enlightenment over the years.
Gbandi, who recalled his long association with The Pointer Newspaper, said it was a privilege to read its publications and featuring as a guest in several interviews before, during and after his Senatorial campaign. He described each encounter as “professional, balanced and intellectually engaging.”
He emphasized that the DPPC has continued to play a vital role in disseminating accurate information, fostering transparency, and promoting good governance through effective media engagement.
While commending the corporation, Dr. Gbandi noted, “I must particularly acknowledge the brilliance of the paper’s numerous writers and editors over the years, including my bosom friend, Godfrey Ubaka, who later rose to become General Manager. The Pointer has also been home to many remarkable journalists such as Awele Ogbogu, Jumai Nwachukwu of the famous ‘Dear Jumai’ column, and Patrick Mgbodo, its distinguished Political Editor, among others. Their collective efforts have sustained the newspaper’s legacy of integrity and intellectual excellence.”
As the corporation clocks 31, Dr. Gbandi lauded its consistent commitment to truth, education, and public enlightenment. “The Pointer has been a strong voice for Deltans and Nigerians alike, offering balanced reportage, insightful analyses, and thought-provoking features that have stood the test of time,” he added.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Hon. Joseph Oyinye, said the corporation’s dedication to excellence has contributed significantly to the visibility of the state government’s developmental strides, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, health, and economic empowerment. Hon. Oyinye urged the management and staff of the DPPC to sustain their professionalism and continue upholding the core values of integrity and accountability in information management.
He also called on the state government to continue supporting the agency with the resources required to strengthen its operations and maintain its leadership role in public information dissemination.
In the saame vein, the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, congratulated the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), publishers of The Pointer titles, on the occasion of its 31st anniversary, describing the newspaper as a beacon of credible journalism and a vital tool for public enlightenment.
In a goodwill message, Prof. Tonukari commended The Pointer for its consistency and dedication to truth, development journalism, and public accountability, noting that it remains the only state-owned newspaper in Nigeria that publishes daily editions.
He said the newspaper has, over the years, remained a steady staple on newsstands across Delta and beyond, providing Deltans with vital information while effectively propagating the policies and developmental agenda of the Delta State Government.
The commissioner praised the board, management, and staff of the corporation for their resilience and commitment to excellence in the face of the industry’s evolving challenges.
According to him, The Pointer has demonstrated remarkable adaptability to modern trends, particularly through its online publishing initiatives that have extended its reach to a global audience.
Tonukari urged the organisation to continue upholding professionalism and ethical journalism, while leveraging technology to enhance its impact in the digital age.
He reaffirmed the state government’s disposition to support The Pointer and other information organs in the state to ensure that they remain effective platforms for communication, enlightenment, and the promotion of good governance, while wishing the management and staff greater milestones in the years ahead, urging them to sustain the legacy of credible reportage and innovation that has shaped its three-decade journey.
Also, the Delta State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Milton Sagboje, commended the management and staff of Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), publishers of The Pointer Newspaper, for its immense contribution to media growth in the state, as it marks its 31st anniversary.
Speaking via a phone interview, Comrade Sagboje lauded the media outfit for its unwavering commitment to truth, professionalism, and balanced reportage over the years.
He described the newspaper as the state’s most reliable source of information and an institution that has played a pivotal role in promoting the programmes and policies of successive governments, including the current administration’s MORE Agenda.
The Chairman noted that for over three decades, the Pointer has served as a bridge between the government and the people, ensuring citizens are well-informed about policies and developmental strides across the state.
“On behalf of the Delta State Youth Council, I warmly felicitate with the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation on the 31st anniversary. Your dedication to objective journalism and community development is truly commendable,” Sagboje stated.
He further commended the state government for its continued support of the corporation and called for more investment to strengthen the newspaper’s digital presence in the ever-evolving media space.
Comrade Sagboje urged the management and editorial team to remain steadfast in their mission of promoting credible journalism and continued inspiring a new generation of young media professionals in the state.
