THE Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku chapter, has declared two weeks strike, calling for justice for the institution’s Registrar suspended over alleged certificates racketeering.
Addressing newsmen yesterday at the Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku, the Chairman of ASUP, Comrade Michael Ogana, said the lingering issue of alleged certificates racketeering has brought disrepute and disrupted the smooth running of academic activities in the institution.
He maintained that due process was not followed in the suspension of the polytechnic registrar by the council, making it ultra vires and a clog in wheel of progress for over eight months running.
The ASUP chairman said they were calling for justice and appealing to the state government to resolve the matter on time by: considering the reports of the committee that had long concluded its findings, cause police operatives from harassing officers of the institution and call the governing council to order or reconstitute same for peace to reign.
The ASUP also in the press statement made available to newsmen called for the recall of the suspended registrar since no substantial case of results racketeering has been established against him, the arrest and prosecution of the whistleblower, make efforts to address the public on the matter to redeem the image of the institution as a reputable institution of learning.
According to Comrade Michael Ogana, this is the situation and our demands as we embark on two weeks warning strike starting from October 21, 2025 over the matter so that justice can be done.
