IN a move aimed at fostering community development and ensuring the upliftment of Asaba’s historic quarters, His Royal Majesty, Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has embarked on a comprehensive inspection tour across the five quarters of Asaba; Umuezei, Ugbomanta, Umuagu, Umuaji, and Umuonaje
The monarch’s tour, which lasted over four hours, focused on assessing the condition of basic infrastructures and dilapidated buildings within the quarters, particularly in the core Ime-Ogbe areas.
Speaking during the inspection, HRM Asagba Azinge emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in community development, urging homeowners to take proactive steps in renovating their properties.
“Our people must take the lead in giving our Ime- Ogbe areas a facelift. We cannot solely rely on government intervention. When we play our part, it becomes easier to attract government attention,” the revered monarch said.
The Asagba warned that abandoned and dilapidated buildings pose risks to the community, including becoming hideouts for criminal activities.
“These neglected structures can easily be used for illicit purposes such as drug peddling and other social vices. Property owners must either renovate or demolish these buildings to protect the dignity and safety of our community,” Asagba Azinge added.
One of the notable stops during the tour was at Sandah Hall in Umuaji Quarters, where the landlord, Ogbueshi Ikechukwu Odili, personally welcomed the royal entourage. In his remarks, Ogbueshi Odili expressed gratitude for the monarch’s efforts and pledged to begin immediate renovations on the property.
