The Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, Engr Dr. Goodnews Agbi has called on Deltans to be appreciative of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on the work he is doing rather than making frivolous and uninformed publications on social media.
This is as the Warri/Uvwie flood control project reaches over 40 per cent completion.
Agbi made the call while inspecting the rehabilitation of Ughwrughelli/Ehidi roads and the construction of Chief Lyn Ivie Akporiche strt, Agbarho in Ughelli North local government area, and the Phase III Airport road, Ugboroke and environs in Warri South and Uvwie local government areas amidst rumors of abandoned Project.
Describing the individual who made the post as a mischief maker, he said the project is only 40 per cent done with the contractor on site and carrying out the works with the aim of keeping Warri/Uvwie dry, insisting that no part of the job was abandoned.
In his words: “we’ve gone round the places the blogger talked about. In his video, he complained that this road is not motorable and vehicles don’t pass the place. But we came and saw that the person who made the post was only ignorant and not informed technically, nor did he ask questions. Here we have a culvert that is taking water from the airport road down to this drain, and then we have seen where it is being discharged to the river behind the Union Bank.”
“These areas were flooded before our working governor came into office, and he’s trying to keep Warri not only dry but also to provide good motorable roads. So, we want deltans to appreciate what the governor is doing. From what we have been able to ascertain, that person who made the post is a mischief maker. That is not the position of what is on the ground. The contractor has 24 months to do the project, they are not yet 10 months, and they have done these much. To all Deltans, I don’t think there is anything to be worried about. Our governor is on course and working. There is construction is going on in every part of the state.”
Earlier, the Director-General, Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Godwin Ejinyere, who expressed shock over the video going round said the person behind the circulation of the viral video was simply uninformed, unprofessional and naive about the project referenced at.
“First and foremost, this contract is for 24 months. The contractor is on site now for 10 months, plus they are 100% on the ground. Whether rain or sun shine, they are very, very much on the ground. Work is ongoing. Nobody ever abandoned any project. They never abandoned the site at any time. They even work on Sundays. I was shocked when I saw what was making the rounds, but it’s one of those things. That person, one, is not a professional. Two did not ask questions. He took the laws into his hands, saying the contract had been abandoned. Trying to drag the name of the state government into the mud.”
