Adopt Computerize Court Process, Delta Judge Urges Lawyers

BY AMAYINDI YAKUBU

THE presiding judge of the Delta State High Court Four, Justice Briki Okolosi has urged legal practitioners to use the court’s online computerized judicial system to streamline case management. The judge gave this charge after a counsel in a case told the court he was not served with processes. The judge told the lawyer the process had been served electronically on January 16, 2026.

The judge framed the exchange as part of a broader push to modernise courtroom practice. He asked the counsel, “Are you still analogue? Everything is now computerized in the state judicial system,” and reminded lawyers that the digital record is the official means of service and case tracking. He further advised them to use their legal email while filing their process, which will give them access to the judicial system.

While in the courtroom, the judge repeatedly consulted his computer to check case files and cross-check related information. “I do not rely on paper files now,” the judge said. “The computer process is more updated,” he added, explaining that the digital system shows filings, service dates, and other procedural steps in real time.

The judge told practising lawyers to routinely use their smartphones for judicial business and to verify the status of their matters before attending court. “Use your smartphones to confirm your cases before coming to court,” he advised, stressing that early confirmation prevents needless delays and wasted court time.
