THREE female passengers died and three others sustained injuries in a commercial transport accident along Warri/Effurun Expressway by Army Barracks, Effurun at the weekend
Two of the injured passengers are said to be responding positively to treatment while one remains in critical condition at Central Hospital, Warri, at the time of filing this report.
Initial reports indicated that the three deceased passengers were hawkers of agbo (liquid herbal medicine).
According to an eyewitness, the accident was caused by an over-speeding private Japanese vehicle whose driver ran over two speed breakers and collided with the Warri-bound commercial bus, causing it to ram into a heavy-duty trailer from behind.
The commercial bus driver, identified as Elisha, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Central Hospital.
The private car was said to be damaged beyond repair, but its driver survived unscathed and was arrested by police.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at Central Hospital mortuary, while the injured continue receiving treatment at the same facility.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
