THE Delta State Government has prohibited the celebration of Valentine parties in both public and private secondary schools across the state, citing concerns over their impact on students’ academic performance and moral standards.
In a press release issued and signed by the Commissioner, Ministry of Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu the government expressed concern over the widespread practice of organising Valentine-themed events by students and teachers within school premises. According to the Commissioner, such activities have not contributed to the promotion of academic excellence in schools.
He emphasised that students should be encouraged to devote their time and energy to productive teaching and learning, rather than events capable of creating distractions or disrupting the academic environment.
Dr. Ashibogwu urged school authorities to avoid programmes that could lead to learning setbacks among students. He reiterated the government commitment to strengthening and improving educational standards in the state, noting that it would discourage any activity perceived as undermining both moral and academic values in schools.
