Delta State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Hon. Sunday Tatabuzogwu, who resumed recently following his redeployment from the Ministry of Energy, has received members of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP)), Delta State Chapter, during a courtesy visit to his office in Asaba.
The visitors included Chairman of the NITP, Delta State Chapter, TPL Samson Amrede, first National Vice President of the NITP, TPL (Prof.) Kingsley Ogboi, Chairman of Association of Town Planning Consultants, Delta State Chapter, TPL (Dr.) E. Moemeka and Secretary of NITP in the state, TPL Abijah Ugbah.
Tatabuzogwu while responding to an elaborate address presented by Amrede to demand better conditions in town planning practice in Delta State, thanked the town planners for the visit, while calling on them to adhere strictly to the Delta State Urban Planning Law, signed by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in line with the implementation of his MORE Agenda.
Earlier in his address, Amrede gave details of the challenges confronting towm planners in the state, while expressing hope of improved working relationshiip with the ministry.
Part of their demands included provision of vehicles and necessary working tools for their members in the ministry and greater synergy with consultants, just as they promised that erring members would be disciplined in accordance with the ethics of town planning practice.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretsry, Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Ehimen urged the town planners to purge the profession of bad eggs, adding that she will continue to work with them to achieve the set goals of the ministry.
In the course of the interaction, It was agreed that henceforth, consultants should intimate the headquarters of any dealings with Area Planning Officers (APOs), to keep it abreast of any transactions and to promote transparency.
