Christmas: Joy, Celebration As Okonji Fetes Asaba Women

It was a moment of joy and celebration for selected women from Asaba, Oshimiili South Local Government Area, Delta State, as an All Progressives Party (APC) chieftain, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, donated various food items to them for the Christmas celebration.

The women, comprising daughters and wives of various villages, numbering more than 150 and drawn from Umuiyibu-Umuezei, Umuezeafadia-Umuaji, and Idumugbe-Umuonaje Quarters of Asaba, received bags of rice, tomatoes, buckets of onions, beans, drinks, and cash sums.

Dressed in different uniforms and led by the most elderly women from each village, the event witnessed songs of praise, dances, and prayers for Ogbueshi Okonji, his wife, Maureen, and his children.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the presentation of the items, Ogbueshi Okonji, a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor, disclosed that it was one of his annual programmes reaching out to women, the vulnerable, and the less privileged in the society.

He explained that the essence was to provide an opportunity for them to join the world in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, adding that Christmas is a season of prayer, giving, and love.

According to him, God has been good to his family and was using the opportunity to extend goodwill to the daughters and wives of Umuiyibu-Umuezei, his ancestral village, women from his mother’s village, Umuaji, and his grandmother’s village, Idumugbe, stressing that it has become one of his annual programmes to give out to the needy.

Ogbueshi Okonji also used the opportunity to commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his development strides in Oshimili South local government area and the state in general. He thanked former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his fatherly care and guidance, and Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Chief Kelvin Ezenyili, and prayed God to strengthen them in their various political careers.

In a chat with newsmen, representatives of the women, Mrs. Felicia Chukwuma, leader of the Ikpoho-Ogbe Umuiyibu; Mrs. Josephine Okwudi, Umuada Umuiyibu; Mrs. Patricia Enenmoh, Ezeafadia-Umuaji, and Mrs. Nkechi Uwaje of Idumugbe, expressed joy and thanked Ogbueshi Okonji for inviting them to partake from his benevolence.

They prayed to God to bless him generously, grant him good health, and opportunities to continue to reach out to those around him.
