Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Land Dispute: Warring Communities Intensify Peace Process, Adopt Further Resolutions

Warring communities of Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West Local Government Area, and Aladja in Udu Local Government Area, all in Delta State, have continued to consolidate on the peaceful co-existence achieved after a truce meeting a few weeks ago.

Stakeholders from both communities at a meeting hosted by the two chairmen of the local governments, Hon Sylvester Oromoni (Warri South West), and Olorogun (Hon) Vincent Oyibode (Udu), in Warri, last Thursday, resolved to sustain and improve on the peace process that has guaranteed the safety of lives and properties.

After the meeting, attended by 20 participants from both communities, each and security personnel, the stakeholders, after observations on the implementation of the earlier resolutions, especially concerning unauthorized publications on facebook page, construction on the buffer zone, and documentations, issued an 11-point resolution to ensure that the expected peace was achieved.

Among the resolutions were to sustain and pursue the peace process to a logical conclusion, showing commitment to achieve peace and a lasting solution to the age-long dispute, and resisting any individual or group attempting to undermine or trespass on the disputed land.

Other resolutions are that that individuals developing or encroaching upon the buffer zone should desist or face joint action of the communities, unauthorized publication should seize immediately, to constitute a think-tank committee on possible boundary adjustment/permanent demarcation, regular peace meeting to foster unity, those brandishing unauthorized firearms should be stopped by community leaders and security agents, and communities to de-emphasize excessive reliance on historical narratives and instead embrace love.

According to the resolution, the participants also agreed that the next meeting will be held at the Udu Local Government Secretariat, Otor-Udu, on or before the second week of November 2025.

1t was also agreed by both communities to furnish the local government chairmen with names and information of their lawyers to adhere to the earlier resolutions reached over court cases.

The resolutions were signed by the Chairman of Warri South-West, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni; the Chairman of Udu, Olorogun (Hoń.) Vincent O. Oyibode; Dr. Richard Lafua, President, Aladja Community Council; Emmanuel Emetejitaye, Aladja Youth Leader; Chief Samuel Eyoroengogha, Chairman, Ogbe-ljoh Warri Kingdom Governing Council; and Amb. Victor E. Akemotubo, President, Ogbe-ljoh Warri Kingdom Youth Council.
