“This is not just another road project. It is a 10-kilometre dual carriageway, with each lane spanning five kilometres and a carriage width of 8.8 metres. It has been designed for durability and improved traffic flow, a standard not often seen in our region,” he said.
The commissioner noted that prior to the reconstruction, a trip that should take six minutes could stretch to several frustrating hours due to the road’s deplorable condition.
He described the new project as a bold intervention by Governor Oborevwori, who undertook the massive rehabilitation on behalf of the Federal Government.
“Many doubted this would happen, but today we are standing on the construction site. This is progress in action”, Izeze said.
He also acknowledged the partnership with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the company handling the reconstruction, commending their commitment to delivering a high quality project.
Comrade Izeze concluded his address with a message of gratitude, saying “we thank His Excellency for his foresight and leadership. I’m glad to labour for Deltans under the stewardship of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.”
Key beneficiaries of the improved road access include religious and commercial centres, such as the Mercyland Complex, as well as industries dependent on the road.
The event was attended by several top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, traditional rulers, including HRM, Emmanuel Sideso, OON, Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie kingdom, among others.
