Oghenesivbe Bags Media Strategist Award

The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Oghenesivbe, has been honoured with the “Iconic Media Strategist Award” by the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (CIISM).

Presenting the award at the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of the State Strategic Communication Workshop (DELCOM 2025) in Asaba, the State capital, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institute, Dr Temile Oritseweyinmi, said Oghenesivbe had demonstrated exceptional skill and professional excellence in strategic communication and media management spanning nearly three decades.

The Institute noted that the Delta State annual strategic communication workshop, designed to sharpen the skills of government spokespersons, political appointees, and media aides to the Governor, is the first of its kind in Nigeria to be sponsored by a state government.

It also commended the Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for prioritising human capital development, particularly in capacity building for civil servants, political appointees, spokespersons, and working journalists in the state.

“The Institute of Information and Strategy Management has found the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Oghenesivbe, Esq., most suited for the Iconic Media Strategist Award, one of the highest honours conferred by the Institute.

Oghenesivbe’s competence and professional expertise in media and information strategy management are evident through hard work, consistent professional development, adherence to ethics, and due diligence in the discharge of his responsibilities in public service, as well as his contributions as a minister in the temple of justice.

“He has nurtured DELCOM over the years, consistently improving its training modules and quality of resource persons from the first to the sixth edition. The Institute is proud to be associated with DELCOM 2025,” she said.

Speaking to journalists after receiving the award, Dr Oghenesivbe expressed gratitude to the President and Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management for honouring him with the Iconic Media Strategist Award, which he said came as a pleasant surprise.

“I never had a wind of it,” he said, thanking the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, for ensuring that DELCOM grew from strength to strength, while also appreciating the immediate past governor, Sen (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, for approving the proposal that birthed the first edition in 2019.

The Bureau Chief, who is also a Public Relations Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), assured that the seventh edition of DELCOM next year would be expanded to accommodate participants from both public and private sectors across the South-South geopolitical zone, in partnership with relevant professional bodies and corporate organisations.

“Delta will host South-South spokespersons, media managers, communication scholars, and working journalists as DELCOM strategises for its seventh edition. All efforts and resources will be deployed to ensure that key stakeholders and relevant professional bodies are involved in the full planning and delivery of DELCOM 2026,” Oghenesivbe said.
