Road Safety: Delta Govt Assurances FRSC Of Continued Support

Delta State Government has assured the State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of continued support towards achieving its mandate of ensuring safety on the roads.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Hon Prince Johnson Erijo, gave the assurance when the new Sector Commander of the FRSC in the state, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander, paid him a courtesy visit.

Hon. Erijo said the state government was satisfied with the much the FRSC had done to check the excesses of drivers and reduce traffic crashes on the roads across the state, pointing out that the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) was established to complement the efforts of the Corps in ensuring sanity on the roads, especially in the major towns and cities of the state.

The Chief of Staff noted that many lives had been saved through the enlightenment campaigns of the FRSC in the motor parks, which had helped to educate the drivers on the dangers of drunk driving, over speeding, over loading, the use of worn out or expired tyres, non compliance with the use of seat belt, the use of phones when driving, amongst others.

He thanked the State Sector Commander for appreciating government’s support for the Corps, and indeed other Federal establishments in the state, reiterating that Delta had remained a hospitable state to all.

Hon Erijo promised to sustain the existing cordial relationship with the FRSC and encouraged the new Sector Commander to feel free to relate with the state government for the greater good of the Corps and improved safety on the roads.

Earlier, Corps Commander Joyce Alexander said the visit was to familiarize with the Chief of Staff and through him appreciate the immense support of the Delta State Government for the FRSC in the state.

She solicited continued support in order to guarantee greater safety on the roads across the state.
