The need for collective efforts in eradicating human trafficking and illegal migration for the overall benefits of the society has been brought to the fore.
The Project Officer of Centre for International Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Delta State Chapter, Mr. Kelechi Uguru, stated this in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State during a sensitization on School Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project (STEAP).
Uguru said that Centre for International Migration Policy Development was an international organization implementing the STEAP initiative in the state and supported by the government of Netherlands.
He stated that human trafficking and illegal migration had bedeviled the society, adding that the project was being implemented in collaboration with NAPTIP in five states in Nigeria, including Delta State.
Earlier, the Principal of Okpanam High School, Mr. Dickson Williams, called for stakeholders’ and community collaboration in steming the tides of human trafficking, stressing that with the efforts of everyone and the assistance of law enforcement agencies the menace could be eradicated.
Williams, who noted that the United Nations and European Union are at the forefront of bringing an end to the ugly trend, stated that these bodies were committed to advancing actions to bring traffickers to justice while protecting and supporting the victims.
