Economic Planning Ministry, UIDC Organize Training In Data Analysis

DELTA State Ministry of Economic Planning, in collaboration with Universal Investment and Development Company Limited (UIDC), is upgrading the capacity of staff of the ministry through an ongoing capacity building workshop on “Data Analysis and Visualisation”.

Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen and Managing Director/Chief Executive of UIDC, Mr. Mukoro Godwin, respectively represented by State Director of Statistics, Nkechi Maduemezie and UIDC’s Head of Corporate Strategy and Planning, Dr. Timothy Igbinosa, both highlighted the importance of the training workshop, which underscores the commitment of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State Governor, to a smarter and more efficient data-driven planning in line with the MORE Agenda.

UIDC which provided the expertise through a line up of seasoned resource persons, is a finance and management company owned by the Delta State Government and supervised by the Ministry of Finance.

The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Timothy Igbinosa on an “Overview of the Workshop”, where he encouraged the participants to think outside the box, while emphasizing the need to gather accurate data for decision making for their bosses.

Igbinosa stressed that the workshop was designed to equip participants with the requisite knowledge, skills and competences to manipulate/analyse their work with state-of-the-art modeling and visualization techniques using Microsoft Excel software. Igbinosa explained the meaning of data, how to manage workbooks, analyse data, create formulae, model and visualize data.

This was followed by the second lecture titled “Enhancing Data Management in the Public Service- Exploring Strategic Roles of the Administrative Officers”, delivered by Mr. Felix Ofobruku, a Deputy Director, on the evolving role of the administrative officer- strategic function in data governance and decision-making, understanding data management in the public sector, records and file management, compliance and confidentiality, supporting decision-making, among other sub-topics.

The third lecture was delivered by Mr. Valentine Dafe on “ICT Essentials and Windows Skills”, which dealt on understanding what ICT entails,  understanding the basics of Windows Operating System, networking basics, acquiring the knowledge of types of networking and what the future holds in ICT.

The training workshop continues today, October 10 at the same venue- Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat, Asaba with topics such as “Microsoft Office Excel 2010- Data Management and Formatting.”
