IN a bid to ensure improvement in service delivery within the Delta State public service, the members of staff of the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl-Child Development, have been trained on digitalization proficiency.
The one-day seminar, which was organized by the Ministry, in collaboration with the office of the Head of Service took place at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat, had as its theme “Digitalization of the Delta State Public Service.” The capacity building for staff within the State Civil Service was a brain-child of the HoS and geared towards the improvement and innovation of the staff.
In his welcome remarks, the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Sir Stanley Rapu commended the HoS, Dr. Mimi Oseji for her unwavering commitment to the capacity building of the State workforce.
“Yóur visit today marks a significant step in enhancing our staff’s capacity to leverage ICT digitalization in improving our service delivery and Humanitarian response” he affirmed. He assured that the Ministry will do it’s best to ensure that the lessons learned were optimized. The workshop facilitator, Mrs. Patience Ndubuisi admonished the participants to key into the objectives of the workshop by cascading the lessons learned to others adding that one of the 20 points agenda of the HoS is digitalization of the public service.
She kick-started the training with the overview of the programme which she described as the use of digital data in public service, and the use of digital technology and digitized data to improve process.
Mrs. Ndubuisi further stated that the concept of digitalization started from the banking industry and that before now, to carry out bank transactions, the customer must visit the bank, but today, the reverse is the case as one can initiate bank transactions in the comfort of one’s home.
She charged the participants to embrace the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive proficiency in the day-to-day service delivery.
“Then as you are doing that, and you are very proficient in the use of your phone and whatever gadget you are going to use in a digitalization package, be mindful of one fact: cyber security for you can be hacked too. Your phone can be hacked and your line can be hacked.
She used the medium to caution officers to tread with caution in the use if the internet to avoid being hacked or scammed.
In her closing remarks, the Director of Administration, Mrs. Gloria Chorkkor applauded the resource team for broadening the minds of staff on digital proficiency adding that going forward, the knowledge gained will come to bear in service delivery in the Ministry.
The one-day seminar focused on artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, Google form, among other topics.
