DELTA State Government has assured pregnant women that insecticide treated nets are available for them and nine months old children who have completed their immunization.
The Malaria Program Manager in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Julie Aniah stated this in her office in Asaba when the Civil Society Organization on Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) led by its Chairman, Pastor Gregory Sifo, accompanied by the State Program Officer of ACOMIN, Juliet Obiajulu paid an advocacy visit to the ministry.
Aniah said that her ministry carried out vigorous awareness campaign on net distribution and use, adding that isome pregnant women who registered in the various facilities refused to collect the nets.
She stated that nets are still available at the public healthcare centres for registered pregnant women and for babies under nine months who have completed their immunisation.
Aniah explained that those who were not able to present their cards to receive the nets because they misplaced them were asked to furnish the ministry with their names in order for them to be given
the nets.
Earlier, the State Chairman of ACOMIN, Pastor Gregory Sifo noted that malaria is one of the thematic
disease control areas that ACOMIN is intervening, stressing that the essence of the visit was to intimate
the Malaria Program Manager of the findings of CBOs in the facilities.
In her remarks, the State Program Officer of ACOMIN, Juliet Obiajulu informed the Ministry that there
was no supply of anti- malaria drugs and nets in some PHCs including Ugbomanta PHC, Asaba.
She emphasized the need for the Ministry of Health to always embark on an adequate awareness campaign whenever nets were to be distributed so that all segments of the population would receive the nets.
