THE Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), is organizing a four-day capacity building workshop on Multigrade Pedagogy and Mixed Ability Classes for 185 teachers in Delta State.
A statement jointly signed by the Executive Chairman, SUBEB, Delta State, Hon Samuel Mariere and Director, Teacher Development Department, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, says the workshop is scheduled to hold between Friday, September16 and 19, 2025, at Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The training bill to commence daily at 9am, has as its theme “Reducing Out-of-School Children through Multigrade Pedagogy,” with the 185 teachers drawn from rural and hard-to-reach areas schools across the state.
The statement disclosed that the programme will feature practical sessions, group activities, and expert-led modules designed to build competence and confidence among participating educators.
It says the initiative is to enhance the pedagogical skills of teachers working in challenging environments, where they often cater for learners of various ages and grade levels within a single classroom.
“Multigrade pedagogy is a global initiative which is driven in Nigeria by UBEC in collaboration with UNICEF. It is a specialized training aimed at enhancing the skills of teachers in handling learners with different age groups and grades in the rural and hard to reach area schools.
“The theme: “Reducing Out- Of- School Children through Multigrade Pedagogy”, and the training is Residential and scheduled to held at 9am daily, the statement added
It emphasized the importance of innovative teaching approaches in bridging educational gaps in rural areas and reiterated SUBEB-UBEC commitment to continuous teachers’ development and inclusive education.
The workshop marks another major step in Delta State’s efforts to strengthen foundational education and reduce the number of children left behind in the education system.
