Eagles Human Rights Initiative Launches Arewa Chapter In Delta

BY PATRICK MGBODO

THE Arewa community in Delta State has received double assurance for the protection of its fundamental rights following the establishment of a special chapter of the Eagles Human Rights Initiative in the state.

Those inaugurated to lead the Arewa chapter of the Eagles Human Rights Initiative are; Alhaji Jibrin Abdullahi Itanau, Alhaji Gambo Adamu, Alhaji Shaibu Abdullahi and Bello Abdullahi.

Inaugurating the chapter in Asaba, the Director- General of the initiative, Comrade Paul Okozi, explained that the move was necessary in view of the linguistic and religious peculiarities of the Arewa community in the state.

Comrade Okozi reaffirmed the initiative’s commitment to defending individual rights and promoting an egalitarian society free from oppression and intimidation, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

He counseled members, among other things, to respect constituted authorities in the group, even as he assured the Arewa Community of a representative in the national leadership body of the Eagles Human Rights Initiative.

At the inauguration, the Deputy Director-General of the Eagles Human Rights Initiative, Comrade Henry Akazue, sensitized members on the group’s rules and regulations, emphasizing civility and respect for law enforcement officers.

He cautioned members against engaging in illegal activities or extortion, stressing that defending the rights of others is a voluntary and selfless service with rewards that go beyond financial gain.

Others who spoke at the event include the Akwukuw- Igbo Coordinator of Eagles Human Rights Initiative, Comrade James Ofuasia, and a red-cap chief in Asaba, Obi Okogba who chaired the occasion.
