There was mild drama in Ibusa community, Oshimili North Local Government Area, when a man was apprehended for allegedly harvesting another farmer’s crops without permission.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was caught in the act while gathering farm produce belonging to another resident farmer. Villagers who noticed the suspicious activity quickly raised alarm, leading to the man’s arrest before he could leave the farm. The rightful owner of the farm expressed shock and disappointment, describing the act as discouraging to hardworking farmers who invest time, money, and energy into cultivation.
Community members condemned the incident, noting that cases of crop theft have been on the rise in recent times. They urged the local vigilante group and traditional authorities to strengthen security in farmlands to prevent further occurrences.
Local authorities in Ibusa have since intervened, and the suspect is expected to face charges related to theft and trespass. Residents have called for stricter measures to protect farmers’ investments and to promote food security in the community.
