Parents, Students Lament Inability To Upload WAEC Results On Portal

By Jumai Nwachukwu

PARENTS and students in Delta State have expressed frustration over their inability to upload their 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal, a requirement for admission into tertiary institutions.

The development has left many prospective undergraduates anxious, as the delay could affect their chances of securing admission in the ongoing 2024/2025 academic session. Some parents lamented that despite repeated visits to computer centres and JAMB-accredited cafés, the system has continued to reject the uploads, often returning error messages.

Speaking with The Pointer, a student, who gave her name as Ejiro, said she had spent several days and resources attempting to upload her results without success. “Every time I go to the café, they tell me the server is down or the result won’t reflect. It is very discouraging because admissions have already started,” she said.

Another student, Miss Olivia Nwachukwu added that she has been visiting the state library for three days now;  they keep telling her that the portal cannot be accessed. Seriously it’s frustrating to know as my Post UTME is just by the corner.

Another parent in Asaba, Mr. Samuel Nwachukwu, described the situation as “worrisome and frustrating,” noting that it places unnecessary psychological and financial pressure on families. He appealed to JAMB and WAEC to intervene urgently so that students are not denied admission over technical issues.

Similarly, a parent who chose anonymity, said the situation is unpleasant to both students and parents. She noted that there has been so many issues from JAMB and WAEC, in this last examination, as she called on stakeholders to resolve the issue before it gets out of hand.

Operators of accredited centres also confirmed the challenge, attributing it to what they described as “system connectivity issues” between WAEC and JAMB’s platforms. They explained that while some results reflect after multiple attempts, others remain unsuccessful despite being genuine.

They noted that as the admission process gathers momentum, parents and students fear that continued delays could unfairly exclude qualified candidates from securing placements into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country.
