Olu Of Warri’s Sportsmanship Applauded After Adding Football In 4th Coronation Anniversary

FORMER African Footballer of the Year, Victor Ikpeba, and Chief Omolubi, the Omatamudieyin of Warri Kingdom have commended His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III CFR, the Olu of Warri, for his exemplary commitment to sportsmanship and physical wellness b including the game of football as part of his 4th coronation anniversary celebrations.

The monarch has organized a star-studded novelty football match to honor retired Nigerian football legends and promote community fitness as part of the activities lined up to celebrate the forth year of his coronation.

The Coronation Novelty Match, scheduled for August 19, 2025, at the Olu Palace, will feature an impressive lineup of football greats, local and international dignitaries.

Among the players are, Victor Ikpeba, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Emmanuel Amunike, Yakubu Ayegbeni, George Finidi, Austin Eguavoen, and Ifeanyi Ekwueme

Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, will serve as goalkeeper for the Iwere Allstars, joined by Hon Emma Nunu, Chief Omolubi, Chief Maku, Chief Dr. Godday Erewa, Hon. Ogbe Eke, and Hon. Onos Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission

They will face the Chevron All-stars, to be captained led by Engr Tony Sifo and featuring: Prince Toju Emiko, Prince Godstime Emiko, Engr. Igho Ekakitie,’

Speaking ahead of the match, Victor Ikpeba stated, “We appreciate His Royal Majesty for including us in his 4th Coronation Anniversary celebration. His commitment to promoting football and honoring our legacy is truly commendable.”

Chief Omolubi added, “This novelty match not only celebrates sportsmanship but also highlights the talents and vitality of the Itsekiri people. It reflects the Olu’s passion for sports and healthy living.”

The event will kick off at 4:30 PM and will include a female novelty match as a curtain raiser, along with Itsekiri cultural dance performances to entertain guests.

This initiative continues the Olu of Warri’s tradition of promoting sports and unity. Notably, during his first coronation anniversary, he organized a Peace Walk, reinforcing his dedication to community wellness and youth engagement.
