AS part of the preparatory requirements for the hosting of the 9th National Youth Games, the technical team comprising technical officials from both the Federations and various affiliate States’ Associations in all the sports listed for the developmental games, were Friday, in Asaba, the Delta State capita for the inspection of facilities on ground and to attest to the level of preparedness of the host State for the games
The inspection officials divided into three different groups to facilitate the completion of the inspections and able to regroup for the appraisal of the inspected facilities.
Many of the facilities are in the main bowl of the Stephen Keshi Stadium and were easily accessed with good remarks at the end of the assignment.
Some other venues outside the Stadium that were inspected included Hockey Complex, Okpanam and were adjudged excellent. Many of the events located at Cenotaph Asaba were equally inspected they include venues for volleyball comprising two courts and another two handball Courts as well but the courts would need some level of renovation as the have some undulating floor.
The Government House Squash Court is to accommodate four different events including squash, Basketball, Fives, Tennis and Squash and they considered the facilities to be in good form with a few touches that will put them in perfect state.
Ibori Golf and Country Club course was also inspected and with a nod as the Public Relations Officer of the Club, Edith Umeh was on groud to give the dimension and other details of the Course which the inspectors found very satisfactory
The team also inspected the hostel at Dennis Osadobe University, Asaba and
Other venues inspected areAbula that will take place in Anglican Girls Grammar School, Asaba which is very close to the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Boxing venue is in St Patrick’s College, Asaba and was inspected as well for Football and Cricket.
Cycling has been programmed for Asaba Ibusa express Way while Rugby will be in Technical College Asaba and will equall provide accommodation for some of the athletes.
