DSCHC To Sanction Fraudulent Hospitals

THE Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC)has vowed to sanction any hospitals found to be forwarding bills of services not rendered.

The Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the DSCHC, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta said this in Asaba while sensitizing civil servants on upgrade of its services and policy review. He frowned at a situation where hospitals are paid for services  not rendered to beneficiaries of the contributory health scheme.

Akpoveta hinted that the commission is set to implement various sanctions for such hospitals, which according to him, would range from N100,000.

He told civil servants to raise alarm wherever they are denied health services, including provision of drugs, saying that the commission makes upfront payment for drugs and other health services provided for outpatients.

Akpoveta said he had deployed 300 health service quality monitors across approved hospitals to rid the healthcare providers of fraud in drug dispensing and computation of bills on services provided to patients.

”In terms of sanction, it is in place. I mentioned a hospital that collected N450, 000 for a Caesarean Section, but we are returning the money to the patient and we will sanction the hospital to pay a fine of N100, 000. If it happens again, we will strike out the name of the hospital from the scheme. Whether it’s a government hospital or not, we insist that the right thing must be done because it is fraud on the part of the hospital to collect money from a pregnant woman under the Equity plan which has been paid for by the Delta State Government”, Akpoveta stated.

The Delta State Contributory Health Commission’s Director General who gave an assurance that a lot of innovations to protect workers had been put in place, solicited their continued cooperation.
